About Us
WCK Danes started in 1998 with our first Great Dane, a brindle, Brooklyn. In 2004 we acquired our first "show dog", AKC/UKC CH Danosaurs Charlotte V WCK, CGC from Jason & Corey Wanat. We were bitten by the show bug after hiring Georgia Hymmen of Daynakin Great Danes to handle Char and she finished her AKC Championship taking Best of Breed from the classes over top specials. Char was our foundation and gave us 2 beautiful litters and first home bred Champion "Apollo" BIS MBPIS UKC/AKC/Int'l CH. WCK Olympus' Chariot Of Fire and later "Newman" AKC/UKC CH WCK's Full Throttle, CGC. We are no longer breeding or showing Danes. We do co-own 3, Rodney, Ayla and Velvet.
We no longer breed Great Danes, However Our goal was to produce quality Great Danes of the style we like, but with adhering to the AKC written standard. Substance and bone combined with elegance, with balance and powerful movement. Also remembering that Great Danes are to appear regal yet were originally bred to WORK. Males who you can not mistake are males and bitches with size yet femininity.
We believe in health testing as a tool for both our Danes and Aussies and I fully believe in honesty and being open regarding any type of health or temperament issues with my dogs and our breeding program. I wish more were and not so worried about the cattiness of others.
The Great Dane is not a healthy breed and because of some who are so hush hush about ailments and hereditary diseases the Great Dane continues to decline. We have had several dogs who had hereditary health problems. We have participated in studies, and have been open and honest. Our breeding program has been ruined because of these health problems. One word of advice for newbie Great Dane breeders: Please research and get other breeders to be open and honest about what is in their bloodlines. NO LINE is clear ... whether its DCM, cataracts, mega, dysplasia... DIG! Find it, be selective in your breeding program. Health should be your number one concern... not just a pretty head.... Great Danes will always be my first love and passion.
WCK Aussies started in 2013 with our first Aussie from Sarah & Krist Kalkes and Kim Patterson of Meadowlawn Kennels in Minnesota. "Bristol" Meadowlawn's A Night In Victory Lane, STDs, AKC/ASCA RN, RATO, RATN, PT, CGC, TKN, DNA-VP. She was trained and handled in Herding (AKC & ASCA) by Stacey Hayes of Shell Bluff Aussies. Currently, we own 4 other Aussies from our 2 breedings and co own a few as well. All participating in various sports: Conformation, Herding, Dock Diving, Rally, Obedience, Scent/nose work, Barn Hunt, and more. Bonn, ASCA/AKC CH WCK's Ushookmeallnitelong@Shlblf is our first Aussie bred by Champion. Check out our Bred by page to see the rest of the litters.
We follow the Australian Shepherd Club of America (ASCA) written standard and guidelines with our Aussies. Our goal is to produce healthy, sound, moderate, versatile, and intelligent Australian Shepherds. Our ultimate goal, with our small limited breeding program, is to produce Aussies that can compete and win in MVA competition. WCK is a registered kennel name with ASCA, and we also hope to achieve HOF kennel status in the future. Unfortunately, the start of our Aussie program has been halted, due to epilepsy. All breeding animals have been altered and the one litter out of one of our pups has also been altered. I know exactly where it came from, however I did not know prior to breeding. If you want to know more, please just ask. As stated earlier on this page, i am open and honest. We will be starting over in the near future. Just waiting for the right pup/breeding.
In 2020, We acquired a beautiful Rhodesian Ridgeback pup from Elaine Demopoulos of The Realm Hounds. Viktor finished his Championship & Grand Championship in short order. We are just getting to learn more about this wonderful breed from mentorship from Elaine, Renee Lehneis, & Katherine Maselli. Hoping with their similar characteristics to Danes, it will be a smooth transition from my heart breed. So far Viktor, has exceeded my expectations with this wonderful personality and temperament and beautiful structure. We have lots of plans with this guy!
We feel with both breeding and purchasing, HEALTH, TEMPERAMENT, & STRUCTURE are all equally important. Extensive research is done prior to purchasing and when making decisions in our breeding program. We do not take breeding dogs lightly and understand as a breeder we are responsible for every life we bring into this world.
All of our dogs are companions, live in the home with us and their well being and happiness is very important to us. We also expect the same from our puppy homes. We believe in a limited vaccine protocol and follow up with yearly titers. We try to treat any medical issues naturally or holistically and have a wonderful Holistic Veterinarian in Jacksonville, FL and in Kingsland, GA. We believe in acupuncture, chiropractic, Chinese herbs and feeding qualify foods. We currently feed several different foods: Nutrisource Turkey & Rice to 2 of our girls who have sensitive systems, Victor Hi Pro Plus to our Active boys & our Ridgeback also gets fed Blue Ridge Beef Complete Raw. Everyone also gets Stella & Chewys Dehydrated Raw on occasion.
We rarely have litters, but you are welcome to inquire. I encourage establishing a relationship and learning all you can while on our puppy waiting list. Approved applications are a must. See our puppy page for more information and our strict policies.
Thanks for stopping by!
